Prerequisites

First semester ( )               Second semester (  )

Compulsory ( )             Elective (  )

Brief contents:

This course begins with a review of gross anatomy. It is designed to build the knowledge of sectional anatomy of human body regions from a three dimensional perspective. During this course student will learn the identification of gross anatomical structures in axial (transverse), sagittal, coronal and orthogonal (oblique) planes and the clinical application of this knowledge to imaging modalities of Computed Tomography images and Magnetic Resonance images. Also characteristic appearance of each anatomical structure on post contrast images of CT and different sequences of MR images will be stressed upon.

Brief description of CT and MRI angiography as well as special MRI techniques e.g. MRCP will also be studied.

Course Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:

 1. Identify anatomical structures of human body regions on CT and  MR.

 2. Appreciate the characteristic appearance of different anatomical structures on plain and post             contrast images of CT and on different sequences of MR images.

Contents :  this course covers ,

-Sectional anatomy of brain with correlation primarily to CT (per and post contrast, soft tissue and bone windows) and MRI (T1 &T2 weighted images), Correlation of selected images of brain PET and SPECT, to CT and MR images of brain.

-Sectional anatomy of head and neck (orbit, PNS, sella, petrous bone) with correlation to CT (per and post contrast) and MRI in T1 & T2 weighted images.

-Sectional anatomy of chest - chest wall including female breast, lungs, tracheobronchial tree and mediastinum in CT (pre and post contrast) images.

-Sectional anatomy of abdomen before and after oral and IV contrast (CT).

- Sectional anatomy of male and female pelvis with correlation to CT (pre and post contrast) and MRI (T1 and T2 weighted images).

-Sectional anatomy of musculosskeletal system with special stress on the sectional anatomy of joints depicted on MR images. Detailed MRI of the Knee joint in T1, T2, PD weighted images will be an example.

-Sectional anatomy of the Cervical, Dorsal and Lumbosacral spine in MRI T1 and T2 weighted images.
